Pipe Bursting – San Diego

When sewer drains are damaged beyond repair, customers are faced with the possibility of a traditional replacement. While sewer line replacements are ideal in some situations, excavation is not always possible or adds to rising costs.

What is Pipe Bursting?

Pipe bursting is a trenchless form of sewer replacement. Instead of digging to expose the old and damaged line, it remains in the ground and a new pipe inserted into place. It is fast and cost effective.  

While it is considered trenchless, it does require digging two small access points at the entry and exit point of the sewer line. Our team will ensure it is done safely and backfill once the job is complete and the sewer is fully restored.  

At the entry point, we feed a heavy steel cable with a cone shaped bursting head attached. It has a pneumatic jack that will thoroughly demolish the damaged line while in ground. While the line is being “burst” underground, it also opens up a new space and the new pipe is inserted at the same time.

The new sewer line is a durable and flexible High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) pipe. HDPE is seamless, making it ideal to guard against root intrusion, and flexible enough to be inserted into place.  

Both pipe bursting and pipelining are ideal options when there is heavily landscaped yards or concrete, but pipelining is not a viable solution if the existing sewer drain is broken beyond repair or collapsed. Pipe bursting offers the same fast and cost effective solution, plus an incredibly durable pipe that will last for years.
